About

Hi, I'm Sam. I'm a software engineer based in Pittsburgh writing software for imbue. Before starting at imbue, I attended a batch at the Recurse Center. And before that, I wrote software for Reality Labs Research, Google and FactSet Research Systems. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2015. I'm especially interested in developer tooling and solving puzzles. In particular, I have a soft spot for statically-typed functional progamming languages and programming language research, in general. I love helping others learn about how to solve problems with code. Whether TAing at CMU or jumping into hairy C++ issues with coworkers, there's no better feeling than helping someone reach that aha moment.

I have a special fondness for the craft of software engineering. I take a lot of pride in building software that solves problems immediately, but leaves opportunity for later optimization, scaling or general improvement.

Beyond coding, I love to spend time with my amazing wife and my very handsome cat. I am also a classically-trained trumpeter. I perform in as many settings as I possibly can: orchestra, funk, latin pop -- you name it. On the weekends, I love to hike and ski.
